Once you've selected the network that you want to attach your instance to, you can then select it. The nics parameter can accept a list of networks that you want to attach the instance to, or it can be specified as a net-id/net-name/port-id or port-name string.
Alternatively, a floating IP can be specified. This is useful for connecting the instance to a project network and also to the external network, if you are using a router.
To assign an instance to the project network, first you need to connect it to the router which has the external networking configured as its gateway. The external IP addresses must be available on a subnet of the external network.
Then you will need to assign it to a group. A securitygroup allows SSH access or other protocols you permit to your instance.
If you assign the instance to a securitygroup, then you can use it even if your cloud is not connected. Just configure the network and access the instance using SSH. This is more convenient, but doesn't give you full control over access to the instance.
If you do not want to assign the instance to a security group, you can use the --os-delete-security-group option. This option removes the instance and returns it to its allocation pool.
